Street
Farm-fresh produce, delicious food, arts and crafts, and live entertainment! Held weekly April through September from 6-9pm (rain or shine), the market is a street festival and certified farmers' market.
2012 Season Updates:
Vendors on Broadway between 3rd & 4th Street will be moving to the center of the street. Our objective in making this move is to improve customer circulation and re-engage downtown retailers on this block, a critical element to the success of the market and the vitality of downtown Chico as a whole. We request that our valuable vendor-partners who have become accustomed to occupying booth space on this block be flexible and open to the possibility of a location and/or booth configuration change. We recognize the new layout may pose challenges for staff and vendors, primarily during load-in and load-out times. Additionally, it may also affect access to power, proximity to vendors’ vehicles, and actual booth display for some. We appreciate your patience and flexibility during this transition as we are confident these changes will lead to a better overall market experience for our members and guests! A draft of the revised street layout can be found on our web site.

TNM Vendor in the Spotlight: TIN ROOF BAKERY
Fri, 05/21/2010 - 12:48pm | by Site Administrator

Last summer Downtown Chico became the new home to Tin Roof Bakery, a local favorite known for its delicious breads and pastries and a popular stop at local farmers’ markets.
Tin Roof’s new operation occupies a warehouse-style building on the corner of 7th and Broadway that previously housed a furniture store and automotive services and has helped to bring a vibrant energy to the south-downtown area.
After years of serving as Chico’s premiere wholesale baker Tin Roof Bakery owner, Brandon Siewert, decided to open a storefront bakery that was easily accessible to the public.
Tin Roof has expanded not only its clientele, but its menu, after moving from their 1,500-square-foot bakery on Highway 32, to their current 5,000-square-foot building in Downtown Chico. In order to house Tin Roof Bakery, the 5,000-square-feet space was completely rebuilt from the floor up to accommodate the electrical and production needs of the bakery. Nearly 4,000-square-feet are used solely for baking, while the remaining space houses the retail bakery and café along with an outdoor patio. The company now employs more than 40 people, from bakers to baristas.
The café which is buzzing with customers from early until close features upscale pastries, handcrafted breads, exotic artisan sandwiches, and a full coffee bar. Since they use many local and seasonal ingredients, their offerings vary from day to day and various breads are available on different days of the week, with the best selection on Saturdays and over two dozen different delicious artisan breads by the loaf. The full service bakery puts emphasis on products that are unique and flavors that are rare and diverse. Tin Roof offers a variety of drinks including Chico Chai and is the only café in town that brews Santa Cruz Verve Coffee.
Tin Roof supplies many of the downtown dining establishments with bread and pastries including Crush, 5th Street Steakhouse, 33 Steaks, Pluto’s, Johnnies, and Sicilian Café. Customers can pick up a loaf at farmers markets in Chico, Paradise and Grass Valley; and some retail outlets including S&S Produce, Chico Natural Foods and Grilla Bites.
If you’re planning a trip to the Thursday Night Market, make sure and stop by Tin Roof Bakery’s booth in front of Raw Bar and experience for yourself their delicious and creative artisan breads and innovative pastries. For more information on Tin Roof Bakery & Café visit them on Facebook.
TNM Presents… KIDFEST
Wed, 04/21/2010 - 3:59pm | by Site Administrator
A collaborative event by the Chico School of Rock (CSOR) and the Butte Folk Music Society (BFMS). KidFest will include music from young people, and some older people to inspire the younger.
KidFest Includes:
- Continuous music from students of the Chico School of Rock, and special guests, on the stage in the plaza (now with 75 quite accomplished youth performers.
- Some “cool folk” headlines acts
- Information about Play Folk! instrument adoption and rescue program (collecting donations of instruments for use by kids who have no access to instruments or money to buy them)
- Play Folk! instrument petting zoo, perhaps with contributions from music stores and local pawn shops – so kids can actually pick up and play a variety of musical instruments
- An on-stage “instruments of the world” demo (organized by BFMS) in which several well-known local musicians have brief performance on more “exotic” and unfamiliar instruments such as accordion, banjo, penny whistle, hammered dulcimer).
- The involvement of local youth and music oriented organizations, such as MENC, Chico Performances, and Wild Oak.
The mission is to provide a venue for local youth to share their talent with the community and to share the event with local youth oriented organizations. BFMS and CSOR can bring the community together through music and inter-generational activities. The new mission of the BFMS is to work with youth to develop their access to musical instruments, jamming and performance opportunities, and exposure to music teachers in the area, and provide opportunities for mentoring from local musicians.
