And Kudos! Go To...

Kudos logoDowntown Chico just wouldn't be the special place that it is without the dedicated people and businesses that make up our community.

The Kudos! Award was created to recognize an individual or business that has made a difference in Downtown Chico over the past year.

At the Downtown Chico Business Association's Annual Meeting and Reception held on Tuesday, April 27th the 2010 Downtown Chico Kudos! Award was presented to Tres Hombres Long Bar & Grill.

DCBA members were asked to nominate who they thought should receive the 2010 Kudos! Award.  Eleven nominations were submitted with several nominees receiving more than one nomination. The DCBA Board of Directors then voted to determine this year's recipient.  The nominees include The Address, David Halimi (Downtown property owner & owner of Diamond W Western Wear), Jolene Francis (CEO Chico Chamber of Commerce), Karen Langen (owner of Cottonparty), "M" Creations, Jack Sterling (owner of Madison Bear Garden & Mom's Restaurant), Nancy Lindahl (owner of Zucchini & Vine and Magna Carta), The Pita Pit, Tin Roof Bakery, Tres Hombres, and the Waterland-Breslauer Building (341 Broadway).

The Kudos! Award is an annual recognition celebrating the commitment, dedication and investment in Downtown Chico.  Kudos! Nominees were chosen by their peers for a variety of reasons, including:

Michael ThomasTres Hombres Restaurants began in 1974 in Lake Tahoe, California. Since they met in 1975, owners Johnny Scurto and Michael Thomas have designed, constructed and operated six successful restaurants in northern California. They also designed and constructed four additional restaurants in California and Mexico.  Opening the Chico location in January 1988, Tres Hombres quickly became a Downtown Chico institution and is known for providing an "experience" like no other.

The foundation for the success and growth of Tres Hombres is a dedication to pays the everyday details of food and drink quality and presentation, correct lighting and music selection, restaurant cleanliness, employee neatness and knowledge.  Management trains employees to provide service that is enthusiastic, friendly and casually professional - keeping the customer upbeat and feeling they have been well taken care of.  Ownership continually makes improvements to an already successful concept. And, of course, they serve up those mouth-watering margaritas!

A few of the many comments submitted from peers about Tres Hombres during the nomination process include:

  • "Despite the recent destructive fire and months of being closed for repairs, they maintain a strong commitment to the betterment of downtown and their business' growth and improvement;"
  • "Tres Hombres is unique among independently owned restaurants and their vibe and energy are rarely found in corporate chain restaurants."
  • "For their unwavering support of Downtown Chico as a sponsor and participant in events and projects - always operating under the premise that "What's good for Downtown is good for my business."

The Downtown Chico Business Association congratulates Tres Hombres and all of the nominees for excellence in businesses and their continued dedication to Downtown Chico.
