Lyon Books

Lyon Books has been a leader in the Downtown Chico community for 7 years!

They are unique in that they offer new and used books as well as specialty gifts in their downtown location at 121 W. 5th Street.  One of the facets that make Lyon Books stand out is their dedication and support of local authors.  The works of more than 200 local authors can be found at Lyon Books throughout the year

This holiday season, Lyon Books will continue offering open houses for local authors.  These open houses offer authors who reside within 60 miles of Chico an opportunity to showcase their works, and customers love them! According to Heather Lyon, owner of Lyon Books, "This event is growing every year.  The first year 40 authors participated and the second year we were up to 65 authors.  This year we are expecting close to 80."  Lyon also commented that the concept behind this event is to give continued support to local authors for as long as their book is in print, rather than only during the book’s initial release.

Among the authors who plan to return to the open house this year include Roger Lederer and Nancy Leek.Leek, Chico’s best known librarian has just written the latest biography of California Pioneer, John Bidwell.  Her participation brings not only a local author to Lyon Books, but also a little history of the town it thrives in.

In addition to the open house, designed to draw attention to many local authors, Lyon Books also offers   book signing opportunities each month.  Book signings are only open to local authors who are releasing a new book, giving them the chance to get their new book out into the public.

So, when you set out for your holiday shopping this season, keep Lyon Books in mind!  With both new and used books in the store as well as unique gifts and local tourist and travel information you’re sure to find something for everyone on your list! Chico’s full-service local bookstore can be reached at 891-3338 or by visiting www.lyonbooks.com.
