Bike Chico! Week

Bike Chico! Week is part of the national effort to share the benefits of bicycling. It is a chance to encourage employees to try bicycle commuting with support from experienced bicyclists and you as an employer. Community activities will include:

Pedal Fest at the
City Plaza on May 11th from 11-3 will kick off the week with a
display of vintage to modern day bicycles, a bicycle powered smoothie station,
bike shop booths, and offer quick safety checks and tips for making your ride
more fun and safe.

Energizer
Stations—at mutiple locations in Chico—will offer refreshments and aid to
commuters from 7-9 AM Monday thru Friday.
Bicycle commuters will receive refreshments, info on commuting, and an
“I Biked!” sticker for discounts at participating businesses.

  • Bike Swap at BMU
    at CSUC
  • Bike Touring
    Adventure lectures
  • Film night at the
    Pageant
  • Community Picnic
    & Commuter Hero Awards

 

Schools will also
be encouraging students to ride to school, awarding prizes and a chance to win
a new bicycle.

The City of Chico
is sponsoring a Bike to Work Week
Business Challenge
. Businesses are
encouraged to compete for the honor of the most cycle friendly place to work. Competition is based on the highest percentage
of riders and the bicycle friendly work environment provided. This is the first
in a sequence of annual Bike to Work Week Challenges. There are three competing divisions: Bronze
(up to 10 employees);

Silver (11- 49
employees); and Gold (50 or more employees).

The winning
businesses receive:

  • Public recognition
  • Identification on
    the City of Chico’s web site
  • Annual rotating
    trophy
  • Award plaque
    displayed at the City Municipal Building
