A historic Chico landmark serving the community for over 100 years

At Northern Star Mills, the Esplanade and Big Chico Creek, the past overtakes the present.

Northern Star Mills stopped grinding flour in the late 1930s, when the government ordered millers to grind grains for human consumption separately from livestock feed. Crops from surrounding fields were hauled to the mill, which stood near West 16th and Chestnut St. from 1895 until an arsonist set fire to the building in 1986. Source: Chico ER (Laura Urseny)

Northern Star Mills has been in the hands of a Growdon or Growdon relative since 1928, when R.A. Harrison, Growdon's late father-in-law, purchased the mill. Later, Growdon handed the business to his son, John M. Growdon, who has now sold it to David Jespersen.

David Jespersen graduated from Chico State and has been working at Northern Star Mills for the last 12+ years. His wife, Delphine, and daughter, Aili, are also big fans of The Mill. Aili, who is 4, LOVES working on the register, and Delphine takes care of the marketing and social media needs. It's still a family affair!

As the new owners take on this incredible opportunity, they will continue to provide the best customer service while maintaining the integrity of the historical aspects of Northern Star Mills.
